How do arrival and leave alerts work?
You save a place, like home or school, with a circle around it. Each time a member's location arrives, NextLocator checks whether they have crossed into or out of that circle and sends an alert when they do. This technique is called geofencing. What happens when there's no internet?
Without mobile data or Wi-Fi, the phone can still work out where it is, but it can't tell anyone. Your family sees your last known location and when it was sent.

Why does the app need to run in the background?
A family locator is only useful if it works while your phone is in your pocket. That needs two things:
